I explore the beautiful design and “additional” beauty of the peacock. I portray him in all his pride and glory, with his tail feathers displayed on a golden backdrop, fit for a king. The ‘eye’ feathers act as a decorative symbol, and recall for the viewer the idea of an intelligent design; feathers, like repeating signs, become almost a pattern. The ‘eyes’ likewise add a sense of tension, and are carriers of cultural context: Argus’ eyes continue to ‘watch’ and observe the world they inhabit.
