“The worst of the cases” is painted in acrylics on an embroidered linen tablecloth that I purchased in a thrift store. The linen is very thin and didn’t need much preparation to carry a medium, only a thin layer of paint. It was very important for me to keep and incorporate the embroideries in the painting. I wanted the history of this fabric to shine through my story, for them to meet and possibly become something completely else. Im interested in the facades we build, the fragile constructs in increasingly technology-driven and digital societies. I like to see the tales we tell ourselves - and then look again. I paint on repurposed fabric such as embroidered linen, velour and chenille. Fabric that have lived with someone. It struck me how telling this is for us: fabrics of such high quality and beauty, containing hours of (often female) labour and years of care is so easy for us to discard. The idea to use them as a carrier of new stories feels like closing a quiet circle.
