“Structure of a Gaze” was painted during the dark Scandinavian winter months of 2025/26. It is painted on orange velour, first with acrylics and later finished with oil paint and charcoal. There was no fixed idea to begin with—only the image of a woman doing something that every one of us could do, and yet it is such an odd move. Over the past few years, I have become increasingly interested in questions surrounding identity, womanhood, vulnerability, and emotional survival. I observe how we construct facades, roles, and narratives about ourselves while remaining incredibly fragile underneath. I am interested in how quickly things that appear to be solid can fall apart. By using materials that are not traditionally meant to be painted on, I introduce this material vulnerability. I can never know how much I can expect from the fabric. It reminds me of how we humans maneuver through life with an equally fragile construction.
