Baked Alaska: Up Close and Personal

Alaska. My 50-year home. Glaciers retreat, forests burn, permafrost melts, snow often now becomes freezing rain. Global warming is real. Contrary to what the current U.S. administration claims, the extraordinary state of Alaska warms two to three times faster than this earth’s average increase. Layers of cold wax and oil pigment allow me to create texture by manipulating the surface during different stages of dryness in my abstract painting. I am also able to carve into the wax revealing underlying colors beneath the surface. Dripping a solvent in controlled areas provide an organic visual “melting” effect. This is a framed cold wax and oil painting on cradled wood.
