When creating this painting, I wanted to convey to the viewer the feeling of uncertainty caused by dementia. Without a handhold, the connection point in memories cannot be grasped.
That is why I made the hands the strongest point of the image. Without them, images and other details lose their meaning. With the horizontal arrangement I aimed for a cinematic atmosphere, evoking the layers of time, but not clarifying them in order to heighten the feeling of uncertainty. The emphasis is not on memories, but on their elusiveness and the despairing search for them. The hands reach not only for the memories, but also for the light filtering in from the right side. For this reason, the image is not only about loss, but also about attachment. The turquoise and sapphire colors do not form a shape or a detail of a shape, which I wanted to convey, that the colors themselves can evoke mood and memory.
This painting made on fiberboard using oil and paper.
