Memoria de pétalos

This work speaks of how beauty can keep on living even when it is no longer there. I didn't paint an orchid, but the trace left by its petals; a subtle presence built through layers. Colombia, where I was born, is the country with the most diversity of orchid species in the world. They represent the diversity and beauty of its territories. The gold leaf evokes what gold meant for our indigenous ancestors: a sacred and worshipped material which was pillaged during colonizations and turned into object of greed. Here, golden is a refuge for memory.
