In many immigrant households and communities of color, fruit has long carried a meaning beyond nourishment. It appears before guests arrive, sits at the center of family tables, accompanies visits to the sick, and is offered in moments when language alone is insufficient. Care is often expressed less through declaration than through the quiet act of peeling fruit, placing it before someone, or carrying it across a threshold. These exchanges become a language of kinship. By centering a bowl of oranges, the work considers how an ordinary domestic object can hold migration, belonging, and love without ever announcing itself as extraordinary.
