Even If the World Ends Today, I Will Drink Coffee

Even if the world were to end today, I would still drink coffee.

On peaceful days and on difficult ones, conflicts continue to unfold somewhere in the world. I do not want to believe that it is enough for only myself to be safe.

Yet the world is vast. It is impossible to witness everything and impossible to take responsibility for solving every problem as if it were my own.

I struggle with the gap between what I can do and what I cannot do. I become embarrassed by the illusion that I might be able to save someone. And then I move forward again.

And sometimes, my ego ruptures the fragile peace.

Sometimes it gently crosses boundaries and reaches out to help. Sometimes it breaks through them with force, leaving only destruction behind.

Even in the face of peace and strife, and the vastness of existence, we cannot escape our own modest routines.
The next morning, over a cup of coffee, the cycle begins again.
