"Chartres" is a watercolour study of the sacred interior of the Chartres Cathedral, France; one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the world. The painting captures the soaring dome, luminous stained glass windows, ornate gold altar furnishings and the intricate compass rose marble floor in a composition of remarkable spatial depth and tonal control. Painted in May 2026 by me, this work attempts to demonstrate a sensitivity to architectural form, light and the spiritual atmosphere of sacred spaces.
