Part of the Born to Gallop, Trained to Carry series, Shedding reflects on a moment of transition when an identity begins to loosen but has not yet disappeared. The work considers the uncomfortable space between what has been carried for a long time and what may emerge once it is released.
The act of shedding is often associated with renewal, yet it can also involve uncertainty and loss. What is left behind may have provided protection, belonging, or purpose, even when it no longer fits. Letting go is therefore not always an act of liberation. It can also be a confrontation with the unfamiliar.
As with the broader series, the work explores the gap between who we hope to become and what circumstances shape us into. Rather than presenting transformation as progress or decline, Shedding lingers in the unresolved moment when one form has begun to fall away and another has not yet fully arrived.
