The gold is not decorative. It carries the same function as the gold grounds in Byzantine icons — not physical light, but uncreated light. The perceptual act made visible.
The white is not empty. The shadow is not decoration.
On the back of the canvas there is a hidden sewn drawing that coincides exactly with the gold form on the front. It cannot be seen in exhibition. Only the owner knows both sides.
