Kintsugi – What Survives
This work draws inspiration from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with gold. Rather than focusing on repair, however, it explores what survives.
Running through the composition is a central axis that can be read as a river, a vein, or a spine, an enduring force that holds together memories, loss, resilience, and transformation. Golden lines trace fractures, but also connections: between places, experiences, and the stories that shape us. The work reflects on how wounds become part of a life without disappearing. It is not about returning to wholeness, but about carrying forward what remains.
This is my Nr 1 choice for the Biennale.
Artwork presentation:
Unstretched canvas hanging from a concealed wooden rod inserted into a sewn channel at the top of the artwork. The canvas is intended to hang freely without stretching or framing. This presentation is an integral part of the work, allowing the material to retain its natural movement, folds, and physical presence.
