I used to dream in colour……
The explosion of colour within the central panel of this polyptych ushers in an explosion of youthful expectation and a sense of heightened excitement of things to come; only to give way to a mire of monochromatic forms representing the diminished and lost dreams of youth within the two flanking panels. Vibrant youthful promise is replaced by a monochromatic world of diminished expectancy and reality, that moves in differing and opposing directions and is in turn subtly ensnared and constrained.
I used to dream in colour could be perceived as a universal ‘discourse’ on contemporary life for those who feel a sense of unfulfilled potential or abruptly arrested potential, and are filled with a sense regret or lost hope, as one’s dreams, talents and hope fades, only to linger and remain as diminished faded ghosts.
Recognising that what once was, is no more… Fui, non sum
