One of my earlier original still lives of an open corset, paintbrushes, and an intricately crafted bracelet on a bed of rumpled sheets. It asks the questions: Where is the artist's model? What has happened here? Or, is this the model for the artist?—Freedom from restraint, yet with a delicate cuff of discipline, equipped with the right tools, immersed in a tousled bed of creativity...
I loved working on the details of this piece — the complex metal designs on the bracelet, the embroidery on the corset, and every sumptuous fold of the bed linens. In parts of the sheets it actually felt like painting the muscular curves of a Leonardo horse. I felt his inspiration for a moment in this painting which makes it hold a special place in my memory and I personally get entranced looking at it, while, in letting it go, I always hoped it might find a home back in Italy. Homage to Leo!
