This painting is a homage to Manet who painted his Olympia at his time as a social scandal. I have painted a black woman prostituted waiting in a hospital, on a worn out hospital coach, a metaphor for her life and a majority of society waiting in the corridor, a social commentary on the declining public services and quality of life for most people. An unusual genre implicated in a hospital environment, which satirises the truth using imagery in a apocryphal genre to heighten the tension. The image is uncanonical as it depicts unconventional and unauthorized setting for this scene.
