This painting wasn't planned: I never intended to paint a picture about war. It was built gradually, piece by piece, before my eyes. The background color felt familiar to me at that moment, the flames, the devastation. Above it, skyscrapers, houses, and dwellings loom, imbued with the anxiety, anguish, and fear that permeates the walls. Still within, even if they're exhausted. The red, burning, searing sun silently looms over the city while a multitude of souls rise toward the sky, finally at peace.
