This conceptual painting, rooted in Eastern Zen philosophy and the art of qi (vital energy), uses the calligraphic strokes of the four Chinese characters “The Original Face” to layer and reconfigure an abstract human face. In Zen, “The Original Face” means transcending the self and returning to a pure, awakened original mind. Created in a spontaneous, one-breath flow state, the vigorous brushwork expresses the artist’s mindless self-forgetfulness, as inner qi moves freely through ink—its rhythms like a meditative energy dance. Two oriental red seals and a symbolic signature with date in the lower-left corner provide a dignified closure. More than a static image, the work is a spiritual vessel that guides viewers beyond surface appearances, into unobstructed energy and awakened being, so they may behold their own true original self.
