Unfolding Sculpture is a monochrome photographic study of the Elephant Ear (Colocasia) plant, focusing on the majesty and physical presence of its leaves. Removed of colour and botanical context, the leaves become sculptural forms: folded, curved, ribbed, and luminous.

The decision to work in black and white is central to the series. Colour is stripped away to reduce visual noise and allow structure, tone, and light to become the dominant subjects. The leaves are no longer seen simply as foliage, but as architectural and almost monumental forms, their surfaces shaped by shadow, vein, edge, and translucency.

Light moves across the leaves as if across carved or folded material, revealing their scale, delicacy, and strength. The series considers how nature constructs form with an authority that can feel both soft and immense.

The work asks viewers to reconsider the grandeur of forms that are often passed by, overlooked, or reduced to background.
