This striking painting uses a mixed medium — primarily built from discarded fishing nets and ropes recovered from the ocean, washed, cleaned, and painstakingly pieced together on canvas.
For the first time, ghost nets — ADLFG (Abandoned, Discarded, Lost Fishing Gear) — have been repurposed as fine art. The artist's message is clear: these nets are deadly traps for dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, dugongs, and countless other marine animals.
Monofilament nets are cut to size and arranged on canvas. Negative spaces are filled with fabric scraps collected from used clothing, gathered through drives at coastal schools in Kerala, India. Layers of acrylic paint are then applied using synthetic and natural brushes to bring the tiger to life.
A predator of the wild, recreated from the debris of the sea — a powerful reminder that every ocean counts.
