This painting depicts a Vanitas. The Latin word meaning "emptiness" or "futility". The term originates from the Old Testament in (Eccesiastes 1:2). In this context it doesn't refer to vanity as self absorbed, it highlights that material wealth, beauty and worldly achievements are meaningless and fleeting. Vanitas are traditionally dark but I wanted to show that our spiritual lives can bring brightness to fleeting moments and desires and that there are many dimensions to our existence. Even thoughour material lives will eventually meet with gravity and death our Souls are independent and rise to Heaven floating as transparent spheres.
