This work is inspired by the ocean and my experience of living in Sri Lanka, known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean.” The sea has always felt full of mystery, beauty, and hidden treasures, and through this piece I wanted to reflect not only what exists beneath the ocean’s surface, but also what exists within ourselves.
The pearls represent Sri Lanka and its connection to the ocean, while also symbolizing the hidden treasures, strength, and beauty that we all carry within us. Using oil, sand, plaster, pearls, and iridescent pigments, I wanted to create texture, movement, and light that echo the feeling of the sea — layered, deep, and constantly shifting.
Beneath the Surface is an invitation to look deeper, both at our surroundings and within ourselves, to discover what is often unseen.
Medium: Oil, pearls, sand, plaster and iridescent pigments on canvas
