The About Being Nomad series explores how physical travel alters the human perception of space and memory, using the architectural frame of an airplane window to reconfigure high-altitude landscapes. Originating from a three-step process—mid-flight photography, preliminary structural sketching, and secondary studio execution—the work translates the immediate experience of travel into a formal dialogue between sweeping, atmospheric color fields and hard-edged geometric structures.
Sourced directly from in-flight sunset studies, Calm Horizon isolates a singular, glowing sliver of orange and yellow light suspended between deep, dark atmospheric strata. Developed in the studio using multi-layered oil glazes, the composition translates the vast scale and quiet solitude of cruising altitude into precise horizontal bands of cyan, indigo, and radiant sunset tones. Held within the repeating window frame, the painting investigates the horizon not as a static geographic boundary, but as an ever-shifting threshold between destinations, recording the lingering psychological sedimentation of memory.
