The About Being Nomad series explores how physical travel alters the human perception of space and memory, using the architectural frame of an airplane window to reconfigure high-altitude landscapes. Originating from a three-step process—mid-flight photography, preliminary structural sketching, and secondary studio execution—the work translates the immediate experience of travel into a formal dialogue between sweeping, atmospheric color fields and hard-edged geometric structures.
In Land’s End, this approach articulates a spatial threshold of departure—documenting the visual and psychological transition as flight moves from the structured geometric grid of the coast onto open water. Executed in the studio using multi-layered oil glazes, the composition contrasts hard-edged, dark green land contours with sweeping vermilion and gold fields that record low-angle morning illumination across the marine surface. Restricted within the architectural boundary of the window frame, Land’s End transforms the visceral memory of an early-morning coastal crossing into a contemplative color field, investigating how physical transit across geographical boundaries reshapes spatial perception and subjective memory.
