Poached Earth
It seems unreal to me as a girl born in the mid-west of the United States, where butterflies landed on me, that this place called Earth could be changed by human inventions spewing catastrophe. Cooking the earth. The surreal becomes real each day. Tuscany and Lombardi (dear to my heart) now swelter, where years ago I studied art, visited our daughter studying abroad in Firenze. In this painting, layers of cold wax and oil pigment allow me to create texture by manipulating the surface during different stages of dryness. I am also able to carve into the wax revealing underlying colors beneath the surface. This is a framed cold wax and oil painting on cradled wood.
