Barbēlō

This drawing draws from Christian Gnostic cosmology, featuring the "Mother-Father" (first) divine emanation of God. Understood as the cosmic womb in which all others are emanated, this drawing illustrates a more uncanny interpretation by equating Barbēlō with the Jungian archetype: the Devouring Mother. The figure to the right is the child-adult who must continue to fight off the womb that attempts to re-envelop him, commencing an emotionally painful rebirthing of himself in which he has to oppose the very being that created and deeply loves him.
