The Clutha River is a mighty blue green river which runs with fury in the Central Otago landscape. It has a powerful flow and anyone near it should be cautious should they be swept away. The Clutha has been harnessed to produce electricity. Now controlled by the Clyde Dam gates the mighty Clutha sometimes becomes a trickle in the summer. This painting was painted in an area of the river that is usually underwater looking back toward the mass of willow roots on the bank. It notes the war humankind is always waging on nature.
