This compact bio-sculpture is an explosion of vital energy and warmth, bringing a radiant marine accent into any space it inhabits. Inspired once again by the fascinating morphology of the sea ascidian, I wanted to interpret this marine organism through a vividly bright, coral-orange palette. The artwork acts as a visual anchor, instantly capturing attention and shifting the mood of its surrounding environment.
The defining characteristic of this piece is its remarkable sensory and tactile appeal. Moving away from glass-like finishes, I deliberately chose a velvety, matte texture that feels incredibly pleasant and soft to the touch, balancing the sculpture's spiky, energetic silhouette. With its two expressive siphons and playful outer textures, the object balances between a domestic collectible design and an organic creature. It serves as a reminder that nature is not only deep and mysterious but also joyfully vibrant, warm, and full of light.
Materials and Technique:
Hand-built ceramics, vibrant matte engobes, pigments, glaze.
Meticulously hand-shaped to create a lively, symmetrical yet organic form covered in soft, tactile protrusions. The intense coral and sun-yellow undercurrents are achieved using layered matte engobes, creating a rich, non-reflective surface that maximizes the pure impact of the color and emphasizes its comforting, touch-friendly texture.
