Dietary Guideline serves as a critical allegory for the systemic structures and societal directives imposed upon the individual. While these "guidelines" are presented as benevolent prescriptions for health and well-being, they often mask the underlying currents of political manipulation and power dynamics.
In this work, the central figure is encased in a translucent, plastic-like membrane—a physical manifestation of self-preservation against an overwhelming system. Utilizing the deliberate, slow-drying properties of oil paint, the artist simulates the suffocating yet protective nature of this boundary. Drawing from her background in Forestry and Neuroscience, Wu explores the tension between "nutrients" provided by authority and the individual's instinctual need to shield their inner life. This piece challenges the viewer to question the "tastes" and "truths" we are conditioned to consume.
