This painting is depicting the myth of perfection, an individual wearing a visard seeking spiritual growth as social status. A visard mask is from early modernity status symbol, worn to protect skin from the sun, a tan meant you worked outside, poor & lower class.The mask traps them, separating their internal reality from their outward projection. The unforgiving environment, demanding no error symbolize the fear of failure
