This work brings together the Japanese Noh play Hagoromo and a statement by Emma Goldman. A traditional mask is partially obscured by fragments of text, transforming the face into a site of tension between concealment and expression.
The phrase “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution” becomes both barrier and voice. By covering the eyes, the work shifts attention from identity to language, suggesting that meaning and resistance persist beyond visibility.
The piece reflects on freedom as movement, and on the enduring power of words within systems of control.
