Retrospection is the second piece in my current series, The Liminal Space, which explores spaces of transition. This painting reflects on individual and collective memory - an open, interior space where personal and shared stories remain, providing sources for reflection, creativity, and wisdom. The painting depicts a bird's eye view of an open drawer as a symbol for memory and history. In the drawer rests an antique film camera with an open casket, a metaphor for the unfinished stories of our lives and the creative processes by which they unfurl. The dried roses spilling out of the casket represent embedded latencies that hold the potential for rejuvenation as time unfolds.
