Sfiorarsi ("Touching", 2023) is an installation that reflects on the fragile and suspended nature of human contact. Enclosed within a black display case protected by glass, photocopies of two white gloves printed on 350 gsm cardstock are crossed by red threads, evoking a silent tension between proximity and distance. Suspended from two wooden clothespins are two Polaroid photographs depicting hands as they approach or barely brush against one another, like traces of a presence that appears only to disappear again.
The work creates a symbolic space in which the act of touching remains suspended, becoming both memory and possibility. The red thread functions simultaneously as a sign of connection and a boundary, while the display case, recalling the form of a reliquary, preserves a minimal yet universal experience: the anticipation of contact or the memory of a touch that never fully occurred.
The work is part of the series La riproducibilità dell'amore (The Reproducibility of Love).
