The painting "Silesian Pietà" is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Pietà motif, drawing on Michelangelo's iconic sculpture, yet grounded in the realities and experiences of Silesia. Instead of the idealized, marble beauty of the Renaissance, the austerity of matter, the fragility of the body, and the weight of history, captured in gesture and painterly texture, emerge.
The central scene is formed by two female figures: the mother and the limp body resting on her lap. The composition evokes the classic Pietà arrangement, but is stripped of pathos and sacred literalness. The faces are blurred, almost erased, as if the pain were too deep to be clearly identified. The body is not the heroic body of Christ, but the body of a human being—a victim of history, labor, industry, and the violence of fate.
