The artwork is based on a photo that I took of the statue of a sower that my great-grandmother used to have and I somehow inherited it. A sower is a very significant archetype of rural lives that our Slovenian/European ancestors used to live. And Laibach used it too, of course. It has something special to do with the destiny of the group's first frontman Tomaž Hostnik who died in 1982 (he made a significant suicide, hanged himself on a Slovenian haystack). The coffin and the steel knife are a secret signiture of this connection, finding it's place in a poem by Laibach from 1987, called The Great Sower. The final verses are as follows:
"The soil still lives deep in the core.
Your will, a plow of burning flame.
Like god, untired, you yield the floor.
With scorched back, treading through the clay.
A waterfall of seeds you claim.
A man of woods (Hostnik), your brow proclaims.
Out of the coffin risen is a blade of steel."
The background is of the wallpaper in my working room of my home. The birch trees are significant, too (they call them Slavic trees). And I put suprematistic elements to the picture, too - as secret ghosts from the digital world that the sower is stepping into ...
