Walking the Line explores a state of tension held in balance. The composition is structured around a horizontal division, where a dense, dark upper field presses against a lighter, more open lower space. A thin, unstable line of colour cuts across the surface, acting as both a boundary and a point of fragility.
Developed through layered applications of oil and cold wax, the painting retains traces of its own making, where earlier marks remain partially visible beneath subsequent layers. The surface holds a quiet but persistent pressure, suggesting a condition of containment rather than release. Rather than resolving this tension, Walking the Line sustains it, occupying the threshold between control and disruption.
