This drawing illustrates and is named after the Lovecraftian character ‘Yogsothoth’, an eldritch deity who is described as both ‘the gate’, ‘the key’, and the ‘guardian of the gate’ of time in Lovecraft’s short story, ‘The Dunwich Horror’. The drawing focuses on the inconceivable Outer Gods’ connection to time, as something which all life depends upon to exist yet is what swallows up all things into nothingness. The horrific existential irony of our dependence yet victimisation by time is illustrated as coldly cruel and ironic, with the three faces of past, present and future, swallowing our distinctiveness into its layers.
