Romania, 2003
Alexia Bănică (b. 2003) is a Romanian Artist whose practice serves as a bridge between rigorous classical technique and the raw, unfiltered pulse of contemporary magical realism. Her obsession with the visual arts began at age ten, sparking a lifelong pursuit of capturing what she describes as "infinite scenarios of precise emotion."
Alexia’s journey is defined by a fierce commitment to artistic autonomy. After graduating from the Dinu Lipatti Art High School in Pitești in 2022, she briefly attended the National Academy of Arts in Bucharest. Finding formal teachings too restrictive for her vision, she departed in her first year to pursue the life of an outsider artist. Since then, she has navigated the creative landscapes of Romania and Bulgaria, evolving from an apartment-based tattooist into a multidisciplinary force specializing in oils, engraving, and figurative mixed media.
Currently based in the mountains of Bulgaria, her work utilizes archetypes and psychological motifs to explore the human condition. Her 2026 portfolio marks a significant evolution, highlighted by the debut of My Mind—a reflective acrylic explosion of transformation—and her participation in the collective exhibition, PROMEMORIA (Sending out an SOS) – War: A Thing Never to Do. Held in Geneva, Switzerland, this prestigious exhibition was organized by The Association Colorier l'Avenir in partnership with ICAN- International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (Nobel Peace Prize 2017) and the Institute of Arab and Meditteranean Cultures - ICAM - L'Olivier.
In 2025, she launched Key To Daydream, a dedicated digital hub and philosophy that brings her controversial and emotive works directly to the public. Driven by the belief that "the only way to heal the scar on the left wrist is by holding a brush in the right hand," Alexia continues to challenge the boundaries of the traditional art world, making the internal external through daring, studied compositions.
