Italy, 1981

Anna Montanaro lives in Desio, Italy, and from an early age developed a keen sensitivity to images, memory, and visual stratification, nurtured between her family’s typography and the art of restoration. After earning her degree with top honors in Contemporary Art Restoration at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, she transformed technical rigor and poetic sensibility into a unique, layered visual language. Her practice weaves together photographic collages, printmaking, painting, and material interventions, creating works that explore memory, time, and identity through layers oscillating between visible and invisible, presence and dissolution. Montanaro has exhibited in major national and international shows, including the Quadriennale di Milano (2025), Florence Biennale (2023), OSTEN Biennial of Drawing, and Biennale di Sondrio (2024). Her awards include the First Prize at the OSTEN Biennial of Drawing, Diploma of Honor at Premio Arte Cairo Editore, and the Ricoh Prize — acknowledgments of her ability to combine research, technique, and poetic vision in the European art landscape. Critics such as Giorgio Gregorio Grasso, Claudio Franza, and Kornelija Koneska recognize in her work a conceptual depth that unites memory, image, and visual introspection, inviting viewers into a profound dialogue with themselves. Montanaro’s work is not mere representation: it is an archaeological exploration of memory, a layered narrative that transforms visual experience into emotional engagement, leaving a lasting mark of presence and reflection on the viewer. www.annamontanaro.it
