Slovenia, 1974
I am a Slovenia-based, self-taught artist living and working in Celje. My work is abstract, as I have never been interested in depicting the visual world that surrounds me. I start painting without a preconceived idea of what I would like to create, applying colour with some spontaneus strokes of paint. It is a form of excavation; by reacting to the canvas, I explore and dig into the layers of my own unconscious, reframing past experiencies.
I see the process as a continuous conversation between myself and the painting, a slow unfolding until I reach 'the story'—a composition of colours and shapes that finally feels inevitable.
My connection to the overlooked, such as wild apples I once discovered in the forest, serves as a metaphor for this practice. Like the wild apple—often dismissed for its bitterness or smallness—the forgotten parts of ourselves hold hidden value. Through this dialogue with the canvas, I am not seeking to create something new, but rather to unearth and reconcile with the fragments of my own past.
My artistic journey includes invitations to exhibit at the Kvartirna Hiša and to participate in an online project curated by Poli Cardenas. My work continues to attract professional interest, notably through the invitation from Mice Jankulovski, the director of the Osten Biennial, to exhibit at their prestigious event.
