United States, 1952

David James Sibbitt is a contemporary figurative painter working in oil on canvas. His paintings draw from personal memory, social observation, and our shared human experiences. He received his BFA from San Francisco State University and his MFA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981, where he studied within the Bay Area Figurative tradition. He studied under Robert Bechtle and Joan Brown during undergraduate and graduate school, respectively. In 1982 he worked with Don Farnsworth and was instrumental in founding Magnolia Editions, a print atelier in Oakland, California, where he worked with master printers and artists before pursuing his own studio practice. He returned to his native Tampa in 1983 to pursue his own work. Recent exhibitions include the Seattle Art Fair 2026, Skyway 2024 at the Tampa Museum of Art, and Art of the Spectacle at Art Center Sarasota.
