Armenia, 1994

Margaret Asatrian is a visual artist born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1994. She graduated from the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in painting. Growing up in an artistic family, she developed a passion for art at a very young age, ultimately choosing it as her career. While the artist’s early works featured portraits, landscapes, and linear drawings from nature, her style later evolved towards abstraction, which she believes allows her to express herself more genuinely and without restrictions. Margaret’s art captures her impressions from the surrounding world, which, once filtered and reframed in her subconscious, are conveyed through combinations of color and form, creating a new order and facets within the abstract realm. Reality and imagination support and complement each other, offering fresh perspectives on life and the complex expressions of human emotions. Her painting process is spontaneous and intuitive. Starting with a few primary colors applied in broad strokes, the artist then focuses on the compositional structure of a piece by interposing organic forms of various sizes. The balance of muted and rich colors, accompanied by free-flowing lines and partially obscured details achieved through multiple layers of fluid paint, gives her works inner dynamism and rhythm. The artist has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art biennales, both nationally and internationally. Notable exhibitions include the 9th Beijing International Art Biennale at the National Art Museum of China in 2022, the 5th Edition of the London Art Biennale at Chelsea Old Town Hall in 2021, the International Contemporary Art Fair in Paris at Porte de Versailles in 2021, and Armenian Contemporary Art in Kuwait in 2019, among others. Her works are permanently exhibited at the Gallery Milmar International in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, as well as at the Gala Art Gallery in her hometown of Yerevan, Armenia. Margaret's works can be found in various private and public collections throughout Europe, the USA, and China.
