Mary Caia is a Melbourne-based Italian-Australian artist whose practice is rooted in intuition, stillness, and the inner landscape. Drawing from meditation, dreams, and moments of quiet reflection, her paintings emerge through a contemplative process where the image reveals itself gradually on the canvas. Working primarily in oils, Mary creates expressive figurative works that explore memory, feminine strength, and personal mythology. Born in Melbourne to Calabrian parents, Mary grew up immersed in creativity, later formalising her studies through illustration and continuing her development alongside teaching art and yoga. Her heritage and life experiences inform the emotional depth of her work, particularly her interest in women’s stories and the resilience found within them. Mary has held solo exhibitions at Montsalvat and continues to expand her practice, guiding students toward trusting their intuition and exploring art as a pathway to healing and personal insight.
