I am captivated by the interplay between cool and warm colours and enjoyed creating them through the use of bold shapes. I am fascinated by how colour is manipulated by light, resulting in the definition of forms our eyes read. This relationship between light and colour inspires the painterly language within my work. As a past horseback rider, I have enjoyed exploring my fondness for horses through oil painting. My visual exploration of the Palio di Siena demonstrates my attempt to experience the thunder of the racing horses, carrying the medieval traditions and camaraderie between the Contrade of Siena. As I was unable to visit the Palio race in person, I experienced the race through blocks of colour within my studio. I hope to have the opportunity to experience the race in person in future travels.
