I have been an artist and maker for as long as I can remember. Creating has always been part of how I understand the world. By the age of eleven, I had discovered a fascination with sculpture, and that curiosity has stayed with me throughout my life.
Through carving wood and stone, I found a language that could express ideas beyond words. Working through the process of carving taught me patience, observation, and the value of discovery. The act of removing material to reveal form continues to inspire me, offering endless opportunities to explore connection, memory, movement, and the relationships between people and the natural world.
Many of my sculptures are designed to be held, inviting touch and direct engagement. Light, shadow, and the movement of the viewer are essential elements of the work. As perspectives shift, forms appear and disappear, creating changing visual experiences that encourage curiosity and personal interpretation. More recently, I have expanded these ideas through installations that combine sculpture, shadow, and spatial relationships, allowing the work to extend beyond the object itself.
Alongside my sculpture practice, I have created installation works centered on placemaking and environmental awareness. I am interested in how art can shape our experience of a space, encourage reflection, and strengthen connections between people and their surroundings.
As an educator, I enjoy helping students discover their own creative voices. Working with students has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I have been fortunate to teach many inspirational students whose curiosity, creativity, and unique perspectives continually inspire me. In my college teaching, I encourage experimentation with both traditional and nontraditional materials, including found, recycled, and repurposed objects. I believe that creativity grows through exploration, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace unexpected possibilities.
Throughout my career, I have exhibited work in galleries, exhibitions, and collections across the United States. Whether I am carving, creating installations, or teaching, I remain inspired by the ways art can bring people together, spark conversation, and encourage a deeper appreciation of the world around us.
