Sarmite Makarova is a painter based in Riga, Latvia, who began her artistic practice in 2023. Working primarily in oil, she explores the fragile relationship between time, perception, and the natural environment. Her paintings often depict forests and seasonal thresholds, capturing moments in which time appears suspended and ordinary reality becomes momentarily transformed. Drawing inspiration from nature and the sudden impulses that interrupt linear experience, her work reflects on presence, impermanence, and awareness. Her paintings are held in private collections internationally, including in the United States, Germany, Greece, and Indonesia. In addition to oil, she also works with pastel, colored pencil, and watercolor.
