India, 1985
My name is Shyam Mohan, and I am a self-taught artist from Kerala, India with a deep passion for tantric art and spiritual visual expression. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Kerala and ancient Indian traditions, my artworks blend philosophy, mathematics, and tantric influences to create thought-provoking paintings and installations.
Over the past four years, I have participated in exhibitions across various art galleries in Kerala, steadily developing my artistic presence within the contemporary art landscape. Many of these exhibitions were conducted and curated by senior Kerala artist Sreekanth Nettoor, whose support has been significant in my artistic journey.
As my works combine spirituality and mathematics as interconnected visual languages, I describe this evolving artistic expression as Sampoojyakala, a Malayalam term that translates as “the venerable art.” At the same time, the word carries a deeper symbolic meaning: Poojyam represents zero, while Kala means art, allowing Sampoojyakala to also be interpreted as “the venerable zero art.”
As a self-taught artist deeply influenced by India’s spiritual and cultural traditions, my creative process remains intuitive and introspective. Rather than following conventional methods, I allow each work to evolve organically, enabling every piece to reveal unexpected dimensions and layered meanings.
