Simona Irrera teaches Chemistry at the Istituto Superiore Statale Confalonieri De Chirico in Rome since 2018 and Chemistry for Restoration at the Scuole Arti e Mestieri of the Comune di Roma since 2016 and at the Accademia di Belle Arti dell’Aquila since 2025.
Previously, she worked in science research at the Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, the University College London in UK, the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerca in Rome, Trieste and Bologna, in addition to spending a few month at the École Nationale Supériure de Chemie de Surface and the University Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris.
She has a degree and PhD in Chemistry (2002 and 2006) at the Università di Roma “La Sapienza”. She is co-author of several peer-reviewed science publications and communications to national and international conferences in the field of adsorption of organic molecules on surfaces and X-ray crystallography.

She is an amateur photographer since high school and started to study cinema in 2011 with several classes on storytelling, scriptwriting and cinematography. She shot short movies that were screened at festivals, her work has received a prize at the Adda Film Festival in 2012, a breakthrough award “Roma Video Clip” and an audience award at Detour On The Road film festival in 2015.
