Ireland, 1951

Syra studied art at Hammersmith College of Art in London and graduated with merit in 1972. In 1977, she and her husband, Irish luthier Chris Larkin (RIP 2018), moved to the small, windswept peninsula known as The Maharees on the west coast of Ireland. There, they lived and worked together, encouraging and inspiring one another daily. For many years, Syra created her art from a caravan, but today she works in a purpose-built studio. Despite the remote location, she has successfully developed her career as a professional artist, participating in numerous major open submission exhibitions in Ireland and at The Mall Galleries in London. Her work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions across Ireland, America, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, and England. Recently, Syra won the Art Boxy Zurich Private Collection Award. Her art is held in both private and corporate collections. Primarily figurative in style, Syra describes her work with the following words: figurative, emotional, poetic, and symbolic.
