Greece, 2005

Xeni Oikonomou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, and was introduced to art at a very early age, beginning to create at just four years old. During her teenage years, she decided to fully dedicate herself to her artistic practice and moved to Germany in search of greater freedom of expression and new creative opportunities. In 2020, she was accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden, where she completed her studies. Her practice primarily focuses on painting, while also expanding into sculpture, installation, and tattooing. Working on large-scale surfaces allows her to approach painting in a strongly physical and almost performative way, where movement and process are as important as the final outcome. Music plays a central role in her creative process, functioning as an internal rhythm that directly influences her emotional and physical state while painting. At the same time, her work focuses strongly on people and human relationships, drawing from personal experiences, family narratives, and broader social contexts. A key aspect of her practice is the reworking of photographic material from her close circle, which she transforms into abstract forms and compositions that oscillate between recognition and ambiguity. Through this process, she explores memory, intimacy, and distance, inviting the viewer into a slow and personal experience of looking. In recent years, writing has become an increasingly central part of her practice. It functions as a parallel space for recording emotions, experiences, and thoughts, with the intention of supporting a process of internal reflection and healing through art. Writing, like painting, becomes a tool for understanding and transforming lived experience.
