Layered in Silhouette
Acrylic and resin on canvas
Some memories remain vivid, while others slowly dissolve into fragments, leaving only traces of what once felt certain. Layered in Silhouette explores this shifting terrain of memory through textured abstraction, where images, forms, and impressions emerge and recede beneath layers of paint and resin. The work is part of the artist’s Dementia Collection, a personal advocacy project that seeks to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias while exploring how difficult experiences can be expressed through beauty, materiality, and visual storytelling.
Layered acrylic and semi-opaque resin create a dense atmospheric surface where silhouettes and fragmented forms appear suspended beneath waves of gold, bronze, and earth tones. Reflective resin elements catch and diffuse light, evoking fleeting images and treasured memories that surface briefly before fading from view. The interplay of opacity and transparency mirrors the fragile and shifting nature of recollection.
Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the work invites contemplation of memory as a living, changing experience. Through texture, light, and layered surfaces, Layered in Silhouette transforms loss into a visual landscape of reflection, resilience, and human connection.
